What are cookies?

Cookies are small files with alphanumeric information stored on the hard drive of your computer. These cookies can only be read by the portal and by the user, who reserves the option to delete them at his criteria.

If you do not wish to receive cookies, you can set your computer to warn you each time you receive a cookie or you can disable all cookies through your browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome). For this purpose, you can access the "Help" menu of your web browser and learn the correct way to change or update your cookie policy. Our cookie policy

Cookies used by UMinho are anonymous so we do not access the user's personal data. Our cookies are used to enhance the experience of our users and to enable us to analyze portal usage so we can be able to optimize the features it contains.

What types of cookies are used?

Session cookies are used by the portal UMinho – they allow us to tailor the website to your interests, such as the language in which the site is displayed – and such cookies are automatically deleted when the browser is closed; persistent cookies – allow us to remember your information and settings when you visit us in the future. For example, saving a cookie to specify that the user already has knowledge of our cookie policy – this type of cookies remains on the computer until its expiration date or until deleted by the user.

This portal uses Google Analytics, a web analytics serviced provided by Google to improve the performance of the portal, registering generic information of the received accesses using anonymous cookies for this purpose.

The University of Minho – from now on mentioned as UMinho – hereby recommends the reading of the follow legal warnings before starting the navigation.

Here are stated the rights and obligations of the users of “Portal Académico” – registered and non-registered – which produce binding effect upon knowledge and acceptance of the terms and conditions.

Information about contents

This portal is regulated by the relevant laws applied to copyright and industrial property.

All texts, contents, images, brands, logos, names, designations and all information present at this portal is property of UMinho and are objects under the domain of copyright and industrial property laws. Exceptions can be applied to the use of information towards education, research or personal use, and in those cases, authorship must be duly credited.

UMinho declines every responsibility for damages that might occur due to interferences, interruptions, computer viruses, malfunctions or operative system connection failures that can prevent, temporarily, the access to navigation or information consultation.

User registration

The registered user will be supplied with a login (username) and a password, which are personal and non-transferable. It lies upon the registered user the responsibility towards access and use of the portal, therefore the user must guarantee the non-disclosure of login details.

Other than all the institutional information available at this portal, the registered user will have access to reserved information which aren’t available to non-registered users.

User’s data handling

In furtherance of the Portuguese laws applied to data privacy and data protection, UMinho, through its relevant services, will be authorized to conduct computerised processing of the user’s data.

This data handling will oblige as prescribed by Portuguese laws applied to personal data databases, upon the use of information structured as a user’s database registered on CNPD – Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (Portuguese Data Protection Authority).

It’s acknowledged by UMinho the commitment to undertake the appropriate technical, processual and administrative measures to protect personal data and guarantee its non-disclosure to third parties, except for situations envisaged by law.

Registered users retain the rights of opposition, access and rectification of their corresponding personal data, in accordance with the applied law.

Anti-fraud and financial security

The following payment methods will be allowed and declined every other method beyond the ones mentioned hereinafter: ATM payment reference, Visa, MasterCard.

The given payment methods comply with the proper security requirements, being all communications encrypted and in strict accordance with the standard “PCI-DSS” (Payment Card Industry – Data Security Standards) demanded by the major financial entities worldwide.

UMinho complies with the mandatory certification requirements of “Netcaixa online – TPA virtual” (a platform of Caixa Geral de Depósitos) applied to financial transactions, being this entity accountable for data processing upon payments with credit or debit cards.

It’s assured the compatibility with the “3D-Secure” service, which stands available on some given cards of the “MasterCard/Maestro” and “Visa/Visa Electron” networks. This service will provide enhanced anti-fraud measures and overall security.

UMinho declines each and every responsibility in the occurrence of service unavailability due to the lack of technological prerequisites.
