Distance learning courses are flexible and modular courses that do not
provide an academic degree. They are designed to suit the needs of
professionals in the labour market and to shorten the distance between
university and society. The aim of these courses is to provide education
and continued training for all framed by lifelong learning.
According to UMinho's distance learning model, learning activities are
fliexible and based on a learner-centred approach. This allows students
freedom of choice in developing and designing their own curricula among
different courses and, as an option, to obtain ECTS credits. The
European Credits Transfer System (ECTS) permits the equivalence between
curriculum units (or parts) belonging to cycles of studies conferring to
bachelor, master and PhD degrees.
